The Advertisers Association of Nigeria (ADVAN) on the 18th of November, 2018 successfully staged this year’s edition, of the annual ADVAN marketing excellence awards at the Civic Centre Victoria island Lagos with the theme “The Power of Story Telling”. The event which was chaired by Mr Arjan Mirchandani Chairman Sona Group gave the marketing association in Nigeria and its members the opportunity to emphasize on the strategic importance of storytelling in nation building and driving economic growth.
Speaking on the ADVAN Marketing Excellence Awards, the ADVAN President, Mrs. Folake Ani-Mumuney reiterated that the award is an opportunity to showcase brands that have been able to tell interesting stories through compelling narrative enabling them achieve extraordinary success from innovative and effective marketing practices. She said this year’s theme was well thought out to resonate with what Nigerian brands stands for over the last 25 years and this was a deciding factor in choosing multiple award-winning Producer and Director Femi Odugbemi as keynote speaker.
In his speech delivered at the event, Odugbemi, who was recently inducted into the Prestigious Hollywood Academy of Motion Picture, in the US, (The Academy), drew a parallel between the crafts of marketing and story-telling. He suggested that both were interwoven as no brand could be successful without it telling a compelling story. He reminded the audience that brands were now called to deliver more in the promotion of the human condition and could therefore learn from the ethos of storytelling which was all about chronicling and transforming the human condition.
